Project: Fiber Reinforced Concrete Flooring Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences

Fiber Type: Modified Indented Polyolefin Fibers

Project Description: Hyperion modified indented polyolefin fibers was applied in the fiber reinforced concrete flooring project of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The flooring for this project is 10 cm thick with a total area of 10,000 square meters. Originally, the design specified a steel fiber dosage of 20 kg per cubic meter of concrete. Given steel fibers density of 7.8 t/m³, its volumetric dosage only amounts to 2.56 liters per cubic meter of concrete. Due to the high density of Steel Fibers, they tend to sink to the bottom during concrete vibration, resulting in insufficient fiber content in the top wearing course. At such a low addition rate, the high tensile strength of Steel Fibers cannot be fully utilized. Accordingly, Steel Fibers are suitable for toughening applications requiring high dosage rather than low-dosage crack resistance. The project finally switched to modified indented polyolefin fiber at an addition rate of 3 kg per cubic meter of concrete. With a density of 0.9 t/m³, modified indented polyolefin fiber delivers a volumetric dosage of 3.33 liters per cubic meter. It features far more fiber counts to build a three-dimensional interlocking network structure. Moreover, its density is close to that of concrete, enabling even homogeneous dispersion inside concrete during vibration without sedimentation, hence delivering consistent and superior anti-cracking performance.
