Project: UHPC Facade Panel Project of Shangyin Opera House
Project Description: Hyperion innovative PVA fibers was applied in the UHPC facade panel project of Shangyin Opera House. It is located in Shanghai's Hengfu Historical and Cultural Area and designed by renowned French architect Christian de Portzamparc. It is China’s first landmark project with large-scale application of UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete) exterior curtain wall. Its total exterior curtain wall area reaches around 20,000 square meters, among which UHPC cladding panels cover approximately 10,000 square meters. Customized large-size precast UHPC panels are widely adopted to form antique brick textures and hollowed-out Chinese lattice patterns, and the facade is shaped like an opening stage curtain, matching perfectly with the artistic temperament of an opera house. Featuring high strength, outstanding durability, light self-weight and great formability, UHPC boasts excellent weather resistance and impermeability with long service life, effectively reducing the main structure load and later maintenance cost. Besides, the hollow structure delivers sun-shading and energy-saving functions as well as distinctive light and shadow effects. With its color and texture well integrated into the surrounding historic Shanghai-style architecture, the building achieves a perfect combination of modern new material, historical context of the block and architectural aesthetics. It pioneers the large-scale use of UHPC curtain walls on large public buildings nationwide and sets an industrial benchmark for material selection and construction of cultural landmarks amid urban historic renewal.
